What all fans of Premier League football wait for all summer is the big kick off and the first glimpse of what their team and an idea of how dreams and aspirations for the season may pan out.
In fairness it was a bit of a damp squib only Bolton and Manchester City looking the part to be called premiership. However, it did not take long for the old trait of the British Media to rear its ugly head. After an excellent cameo from Sergio Aguero some lazy media journalists decided it was the perfect opportunity to have a go at another British player. Comparisons of the fee paid for Aguero who cost a reported £38m and a further £52m in wages over 5 years costing a total of £90m alongside the fee paid for Andy Carroll of Liverpool £35m and a further £15m in wages a total of £50m. Whilst the transfer fee was similar that is were the similarities end.
One player is the old type of British centre forward, big, strong and likes to get involved whereas the other is small, fast and tricky. Surely if they wish to compare transfer fees then they should look at the fee Manchester United paid for Hernandez a reported £6m and he is very similar to Aguero, both players rely on skill and speed to beat players and score. Whilst this would put into doubt the amount Manchester City paid for Aguero it may make a more interesting article than comparing what could be referred to as chalk and cheese, or am I being to optimistic to hope that a journalist would apply thought and logic to a story?
