What is noise-induced hearing loss?

Noise-induced hearing loss is deafness caused by exposure to excessive levels of noise. It can be divided into two categories:

  • Acoustic trauma, which is when hearing is lost immediately as a result of a sudden loud noise.
  • Gradual and increasing, which is damage to the hearing caused by frequent exposure to loud noise and can get worse over time.

Examples of noisy workplaces

At Percy Hughes & Roberts, we regularly make successful compensation claims on behalf of employees from a range of industries who suffer from industrial deafness. These include:

  • Construction workers
  • Engineers
  • Factory workers
  • Manufacturers
  • Mechanics
  • Metal workers
  • Roadworkers
  • Shipyard workers

Regardless of your job, if you believe your employer was responsible for your noise-induced hearing loss, we may be able to help you make a claim for compensation.

What is tinnitus?

Tinnitus is when you hear a ringing, buzzing, humming, hissing or whistling in your ears. This is a condition often caused by noise in the workplace. In some cases, tinnitus may be a minor fluctuating irritation, however, for some people it can be continuous and significantly affect their ability to go about their daily life.

Problems caused by serious tinnitus include:

  • Distress and frustration
  • Lack of concentration
  • Insomnia
  • Depression

If your tinnitus was caused by your employer’s negligence, you may be entitled to make a claim for compensation.

How we can help

Our Solicitors have recovered substantial compensation for the victims of industrial deafness.

Employers must have taken reasonable action to decrease the noise levels where any noise is assessed as excessive. If the employer cannot restrict the noise levels they have to offer hearing protection devices.

Lots of employers have ignored or failed to follow the guidance issued by the Government. This has left many employees suffering with industrial deafness. If you receive a diagnosis of industrial deafness or believe that you have suffered hearing loss and were exposed to excessive noise during the course of your work then you may be entitled to receive industrial deafness compensation for your injuries.
